Peace comes dropping slow...
Rhapsodysinger , India: Sep 23 2007

All of us want to be calm, tranquil and in peace. But few achieve it. People will try anything to get some peace for peace come dropping slow from the veils of the morning and sorrow wraps around us and though we bid sorrow adieu, she loves us dearly.
Literature is a way to find happiness. & classic literature is often more elevating than self-help books. Where self-help books tell us dryly what to do or not to do, classic literature acts on our unconscious minds and changes us from within. High art rather than the ‘to-do’ books entertain and quietly make us peaceful and really calm for life.

I suggest the following books for starters:

Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather. Know that you can be peaceful even in the back of beyond and do the work of your life even if you are amongst aliens.

Vanity Fair by W.M. Thackeray. The sly Becky Sharp will teach you to take life calmly with a pinch of salt even if people around you swindle you. Remember that none has the perfect family or friends. Everyone including you is deeply flawed. To accept your stains is peace.

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. It takes all kinds to be happy. If people were just replicas of you then life would be oh so boring.

Prometheus Unbound by P.B. Shelley. Just let this majestic poem lull you to a sense of wonder.

Desperation by Stephen King. God is there even when evil is all around. You have never been deserted by God.

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. Go to frontier America and contemplate life. Peace indeed comes dropping slow from the veils of the morning.

Happy reading!
